October 2017 Parent Resource Message

Handshake/Career Planning

If your student has questions about how jobs relate to their major or want confirmation that their chosen major is a good match for their interests, skills and career values, we recommend they visit the ASU Career and Professional Development Services office webpage and create their profile on the Handshake program.

Through the Handshake program, your student can make a career exploration appointment with a career professional.  The career advisor will interpret assessments which can help your student learn if their chosen major matches their goals.

Through Handshake, students may view internship opportunities and learn about companies that partner with ASU for job postings.

We encourage students to login to Handshake early in their educational career.  The program is very interactive and tailors information for each student.  It is an excellent resource students can use to learn about majors and related career paths.

The Career and Professional Development Services office is located on the 2nd floor of the Student Services building.

Fall Break – Classes are excused October 7-10, 2017

Course Withdrawal Deadline:

November 1, 2017 is the last day students may request a withdrawal from a C session class while staying enrolled in other classes in the same session.  Students can find the withdrawal date information for each course for which they are currently registered by clicking on the calendar icon next to the course on their MyASU page.

Students should speak with an academic advisor before withdrawing from courses.  Students who have financial aid and scholarships should also contact Financial Aid and Scholarship Services before withdrawing from courses.

Spring 2018 Registration:

Academic advisors will be working with your student to develop their spring 2018 registration during the next several weeks in their POS/SGS 191 class.  Students will be able to register for spring classes in late October.  The 191 course includes an assignment which requires students to submit their spring schedule to their instructor.  An advisor will review each student’s course choices and will make recommendations for edits (if needed) in November.
