Accelerated Master's in Global Security - BA, Applied Military and Veterans Studies

This degree is designed to meet the needs to students pursuing careers in a variety of areas. Students completing the Accelerated Master’s program are well-prepared for a rapidly expanding security-related field.

The Global Security programs are based on four key pillars:  Enabling innovative strategic thinking, developing analytic tools, supporting critical interdisciplinary engagement, and encouraging flexible and resilient approaches to the inherently complex challenges of current and future global security.

In all programs, students learn from top faculty, including global thought leaders, seasoned scholars, and skilled practitioners. Classes integrate case studies, policy exercises, and critical thinking to prepare students for career advancement.

• Be an undergraduate student in the Applied Military and Veteran Studies (MVS) program.
• Have earned at least 75 hours toward the undergraduate degree at the time of application; 90 hours
  are needed to begin taking graduate courses.
• Have a minimum 3.6 cumulative GPA at the time of application (cumulative GPA earned at ASU,
  excluding transfer credits).
• Be on track to graduate with the undergraduate degree within two semesters after being accepted into the accelerated program.
• Complete an application packet and submit all materials by the application deadline.

Before applying, students should carefully review the conditions of any financial aid or scholarship package to verify eligibility, if applicable.

1. Cover page which includes: student’s name, ASU ID Number, undergraduate major and minor (if applicable), cumulative GPA, MVS courses taken and grades earned, SGS or POS courses taken and grades earned (if any), anticipated date of completion of bachelor’s degree, and name, title, and email address of faculty member writing letter of recommendation.
 
2. Statement of Purpose (2-3 pages) describing interest in accelerated program, and professional or educational goals.
 
3. Copy of unofficial transcript
 
4. CV or Resume
 
5. Letter of recommendation:

• One letter of recommendation sent directly from the Applied Military and Veteran Studies OR School of Politics
  and Global Studies (SPGS) faculty to [email protected].  Letter should preferably be from an instructor of a 300 or 400 level seminar course required for student’s major.
• A letter of recommendation form from an SPGS faculty member is also required.  This faculty member should complete the online letter of recommendation template and email the recommendation to [email protected]. Please direct letter writer to use the template provided here.   

Application deadline:
October 15 (to begin taking graduate classes the following spring)
May 15 (to begin taking graduate classes the following fall)
