Faculty Teaching Awards
Every year, the School of Politics and Global Studies asks students to nominate a faculty member for an outstanding teaching award. Winners are announced at the School of Politics and Global Studies Annual Recognition Ceremony during the spring semester.
Michael Mitchell Outstanding Teaching Award Recipients
Professor Michael J. Mitchell was an expert in Afro-Latino and Afro-Brazilian politics and culture, who died in 2015. He left a legacy of more than four decades of teaching and research.
Upon his passing, students shared their stories of how he kept them in school and turned their lives around. Our advisors have shared that they routinely sent troubled students to him knowing that he would take them under his wing.
The faculty chose to honor Professor Mitchell by renaming the School’s faculty teaching award in his honor.
